Date: c. 1478

Edward IV (1461-83), Penny, light cross and pellets coinage (1478), Trim Mint
Description:
Third Cross and Pellets coinage, Trim, mm. not visible, no marks on obv., 0.40g (UKDFD 20310; Burns –; S –).
Good fine, excessively rare; one of two recorded specimens
Obverse:
- Crowned facing bust
Reverse:

- no extra pellets
Note:
An extremely rare issue struck from local dies and given to the period of Lord Grey’s occupation of Trim Castle, around November 1478. Comparison to Mac Conamhna fig. 9, nos. 20 and 21, shows how Galmole’s punch was likely used as the model for this naive-style Trim punch.
