Notes:
A number of wide and narrow date varieties exist for the Irish halfcrown series. In the instance of a variety, it is normal practice to list the ‘normal strike’ as Variety A and the more unusual strike as Variety B (or later).
- 1939 Halfcrown (Variety B, wide date)
- 1940 Halfcrown (Variety B, narrow date)
- 1942 Halfcrown (Variety B, wide date)
- 1943 Halfcrown (Variety B, wide date)
- A substantial premium may be assigned to these minor varieties.
- Collectors are advised to look out for them.

There are several dates/denominations of the Republic coinage with weak struck harp strings. My particular question deals with the half crowns of 1967. Does anyone know of any with full string strike? I am working on a graded set at the upper end and have yet to find any, even looking at the circulated grades. Fell free to email me, and thank you in advance.

Dies do degrade over time and have to be replaced, so this is to be expected.
The ‘chickless’ pennies are also thought to be due to worn dies.
Have you checked any 1967 Irish halfcrown proofs for comparison?
I wonder if this is why we opened our own Mint in Sandyford, Co Dublin in the 1970s?
